Laseroptronix can offer some suitable products for level control of materials in storage and for process control. Optical systems have special features when measuring solid materials as these materials often have angled surfaces making ultrasonic systems useless.
The laser based distance meter and profilometer have no problems to measure to such surfaces.
Laser based systems can have a very long range of several hundreds meters to the darkest materials like iron ore and sand. This makes installation easier and the system can be mounted on the top of the silo which is a more clean place than on a lower position.
If adjusted they can also measure levels of liquids and they can do this through a transparent window . Then there are no parts inside and in contact with the liquid.

We have some solutions based on a scanning laser radar system. This measures the complete shape of the material and gives a very exact knowledge about the volume. The blue box on top is a single axis line scanner suitable for profilometering of materials -
Laser distance meters for control of solid materials. Long range and high reliability.

The Level Checker series of distance meters can measure between 4 m and 200 m with cm repeatability and absolute accuracies of less 5 cm. The Infrared laser beam is eye safe and not dangerous. It certified in laser class 1.

The laser is pulsed and time of flight method is used to calculate the distance to the surface. Angles of materials can be over 60 degree and still the system can measure the distance to a point.

Price idea about USD 3000 for a complete system with RS 232 output signal.
Laser profilometers for scanning topography in silos and bins with solids This is a scanned laser beam measuring the profile of the solids. This makes it possible to see the top and bottom and to make a more correct analyze of the volume. Many solid materials can have angles of 45 degree at edges and this can make a point measurement incorrect to several meters in a large silo. This error is normally many times larger than the accuracy of the distance meter. Price idea from USD 5000 and up.

Laser distance meters measuring to a reflector on a buoy. Long range and high accuracy

This phase meter use a laser distance meter capable of 2 mm resolution up to 100 m in distance and we have to measure to a reflector which is mounted on the top of a small float on the liquid surface. Output signal is RS 232 / RS 485 etc. This system is very accurate and admits long distances with unique characteristics
